1. Cartagena de Indias
Stay
About the destination: Declared part of the UNESCO World Heritage in 1984, Cartagena de Indias is quite possibly one of South America's most beautiful city. Facing the Caribbean Sea to the west with Cartagena Bay to the south, the city is Colombia's top travel attraction. The city encapsulates all the charm of Spanish colonial architecture. The old town of Cartagena is immaculately preserved, with numerous beautiful plazas, churches and old buildings to marvel at. Walking down its picture-perfect streets is just a delight. Stroll along an enchanting maze of cobbled alleys and admire the Spanish colonial buildings including the Palace of the Inquisition, the Clock-Tower and the Castle of San Felipe de Barajas. Eating out is another form of entertainment in Cartagena, with countless choices of new and exotic flavours in its local and international restaurants. Cartagena offers all the enchantment of its history and it is considered one of the greatest cultural treasures in the Americas.

2. Barranquilla
Stay
About the destination: After Bogotá, Medellin and Cali, Barranquilla is Colombia's fourth largest city. It's the major industrial port located in northern Colombia by the Caribbean Sea, at the mouth of the Magdalena River. The city is famous throughout Latin America for its vibrant four-day carnival. Carnaval de Barranquilla is second only in size to Rio's and it's the largest street parade in Colombia with dance, music and masquerade parades. The carnival in Barranquilla is unique because of its cultural diversity, with Spanish, African and indigenous influences. Strolling the streets of the city centre and the most pleasant district, El Prado, you’ll come across several nice examples of Art Deco architecture and the main sights of the city, with Casa del Carnaval being the highlight. The Catedral Metropolitana María Reina, another of the city’s main sights, is also located in El Prado area. Although Barranquilla is not among the top tourist cities in Colombia you just have to visit the city to get a real feel of Colombia. Barranquilla is Colombian culture at its best.
