Tibet China

Tibet is a fascinating autonomous region of China that borders Nepal, Bhutan ad India. Located high up in the Himalayas, Tibet is often referred to as the roof of the world. It is protected by the highest mountains in the world and is a region of a unique and overwhelming culture, ceremonies and monasteries, all set in the breathtaking landscape of the Himalayas. Lhasa is the capital of Tibet and also its largest city. In Lhasa there is the Potala Palace, the home of successive Dalai Lamas. Other main attractions located in the city are the Jokhang Temple, one of the holiest sites in Tibet and Barkhor Street, a street of traditional Tibetan buildings that encompasses the Jokhang Temple. On the other side of the Chakpori, a small mountain opposite Potala, is the Sang Gya Thong Ku Temple, a very popular temple among devout Buddhists and a place of silent prayer. The Yarlung Valley is rich in history and is home to the oldest field in Tibet, as well as the oldest village that is located at the foot of the country’s oldest fortress, Yom Bu La Khang, the rock palace of the country’s first mystic king. The unique Kumbum Chörten, a three-dimensional mandala, is one of the largest monuments in Tibetan architecture. Mystical, magical and somehow incomprehensible, Tibet offers an overload on the senses. Despite Chinese influence, Tibet is still a religiously devout country with a captivating monastery culture and stunning natural scenery.
