The Gold of the West is an exciting 6-day tour discovering the wonders of the American West, offered by Amadeo Travel. The tour departs every Tuesday, all year round, from the Public Library of San Francisco (100 Larkin St., 8:30 am).
This extraordinary itinerary crosses some of the most iconic and spectacular landscapes of the United States: from the lively streets of San Francisco, with its famous bay and Golden Gate Bridge, to the majestic forests and waterfalls of Yosemite National Park, all the way to the glittering lights of Las Vegas in the heart of the desert.
The journey continues to the natural wonders of the American Southwest: the legendary Grand Canyon, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, the surreal rock formations of Antelope Canyon, and the majesty of Zion Park, a place of spirituality and unparalleled beauty. The itinerary offers two seasonal variants — summer (April 1 – October 31) and winter (November 1 – March 31) — with some differences in the intermediate stops.
The tour concludes with a return to Las Vegas or, as an optional alternative, with a late evening arrival in Los Angeles.
San Francisco – Bay Cruise – Golden Gate Bridge – Chinatown
The tour begins at the public library, from where you embark for a day full of visits around the city. The day starts with a mini cruise departing from Fisherman's Wharf and sailing through the famous bay, under the Golden Gate bridge and near the well-known Alcatraz Island.
Return to Pier 39 for lunch, then continue with a panoramic city tour, which includes the Golden Gate Bridge, Union Square, Chinatown, and Nob Hill. The tour ends with a splendid evening view of the city from the Bay Bridge.
Modesto – Yosemite
The route heads toward the farms of the Joaquin Valley toward Yosemite National Park. Two thousand wonderful square kilometers of forests, lakes, and waterfalls located in the Sierra Nevada.
There is a stop at El Capitan, Bridal Veil Falls, Half Dome and then continuing on foot from the Yosemite Park Visitor Center up to the tallest waterfalls in North America: the Yosemite Falls.
Stevenson Ranch – Las Vegas
We head east through the desert and the famous Death Valley to reach the gambling capital: Las Vegas. We stop for lunch at the Barstow Outlet, full of stores like Levi's, Nike, Reebok, Timberland, and many more, all at competitive prices.
In the evening, there is a panoramic tour of the famous Las Vegas Strip to see from the outside some of the incredibly imaginative hotels and buildings built in the middle of the desert:
The free evening can be spent at one of the many shows or trying your luck in one of the many casinos; lady luck smiles on many every day!
Las Vegas – Grand Canyon – Page
In the morning, we head southeast through the desert and the Navajo Indian reservation before reaching the south rim of "ONE OF THE SEVEN WONDERS OF THE WORLD", the Grand Canyon. Traveling along the south rim, you can understand how the Colorado River carved its way to the sea over the millennia, creating this unique geological wonder.
After lunch, the journey continues along the east rim of the Canyon, stopping at some of the many Indian markets to discover their crafts. Arrival in the late afternoon at Lake Powell, considered one of the most beautiful in America.
Antelope Canyon – Bryce Canyon
We start the day where "water runs through the rocks", as the Navajo folklore says. We visit the upper part of Antelope Canyon and the spectacular dunes created by wind, water, and sand; there are no words to describe these creations of Mother Nature.
After returning from the canyon, we head to Bryce Canyon, home to some of the most incredible natural sculptures in the world. Our tour will show you these fascinating rock and sand formations perfectly sculpted by millennia of sun, wind, and rain. Unmissable is the fantastic color change at sunset from one of the park’s scenic points (may change depending on sunset time).
We then continue to the city of Kanab, the filming location for over 100 Western movies.
On some departures, the tour continues to Cedar City for an overnight stay at Comfort Inn, Cedar City.
Zion Park – Las Vegas – Los Angeles
After breakfast, we depart for Zion Park. The name was given by the Mormons who settled in the area, since for them, visiting this park is like having a religious experience; the majesty of the mountains and the silence of nature make you feel transported to another world.
The park is visited and part of the trail along the Virgin River that runs through the park is walked, before leaving this incredible place and returning to Las Vegas.
